How often/where do you post ?

Just curious, CP seems to me to be pretty slow nowadays, do people feel they post more, the same, or less than in the past ? More to the point, would you use CP for programming stuff as much as in the past ?

Originally in 2005 I came to CP to find source code and to show off my own work. A year later I discovered the forums, specifically the soapbox. Once I saw the controversial and heated debates in the soapbox I was immediately hooked. I suspect the economy and the recent Back Room change slowed things down a bit.

Yeah, it ceased to be of value to me a long time ago, too. I find that asking questions here, or on MSDN, is basically useless nowadays.

I generally post here or in the Lounge, however I have noticed that it's very much quieter in both places lately... Occasionally I post in the VB, General Database or other coding forums. I don't participate heavily in any other online tech forums, and only update the Booger Mobile blog whenever work/significant events have taken place.

I think there is still some value there. For the last four years I've done only server side c++ on linux and my interest in MFC and Win32 has faded.

Yes, I definitely do it for social interaction... When I'm not onsite, I also tend to use MSN Messenger for this, however they have it blocked at the site I am at today... Do you use any IM software?

Depends. Now I am still learning some aspects of WPF, CP is good, MSDN is still useless. I just don't get answers.

I think that with your (obvious) passion and experience, any blog you write would have a large following! I have quite enjoyed doing the BM blog - just need to do some more work to have a reason to update it!

*grin* I would hope people get a laugh out of it, but I'd actually tell people how to fix bugs in MS stuff, for example, there are .NET methods for reading files that don't work with vista, because under the hood, they request full access, so I'd tell people which ones they should use. other times, I'd just rant about the stupidity of having to remember to install WMP10 every time I start a new PC, so that WPF works.

Oh we do! Even just the latest subject line of "XYZ sucks" causes us to commence giggling... I think the problem you have with CP and MSDN forums, is that because you are an advanced user, you have a tough time finding anyone with suitable experience to help you with the advanced issues you have... You (seem to) stretch the bounds of what the products can achieve, therefore run into issues that us mere mortals don't generally come up against! Come to me when you have an SQL query or database design issue... rofl... When you specialise in business software (as I do), there aren't that many new and exciting traps, they all tend to be traps for young players...

Yes, I agree, generally. However, for WPF, I don't think the questions I asked were that advanced, although they were basically 'why doesn't the bloody media element control work at all ?'. I do think the basic issue is a lot of people asking very basic questions, and the ones that are not basic, get lost pretty quickly.

I probably don't post as much here as I have in the past. It seems much more hostile somehow and the ultra right wingers are just insufferable since Obama was elected. I never check the lounge anymore and only look in on SB 2.0 once in a while and haven't posted there since the switchover, I think. I check the algorithms and graphics forums and occasionally answer questions or smack the homework cheaters there but they've been pretty quiet for a while. I check the articles daily but most of the new articles are C# and .NET and not relevant to me. The articles I read are usually about things like image processing.
