I'm sorry, but speed cameras where I live are not used to protect lives, they are used to generate revenue. They are indeed evil.

In my region (Chennai, India), the city administration aggressively spends the tax payer's money in setting up all types of fancy signals and cameras at strategic places across the city but forgets to initiatilise them to work. After a lot of years, with good amount of dust gathered on it, they just take it and throw it away.
