A destroyer is one of the fleets smaller ships. That said they are deploying defensive interceptor missiles in Hawaii, SDI (star wars). Which was faught tooth and nail by our socialists and many European allies. Now the biggest anti-defense, anti-SDI, weenie who cut funding for SDI is deploying these missiles to his former home state.

Good thing I used the joke icon, isn't it? Still, isn't it at least slightly ironic that it's the USS John McCain being sent? edit: While, of course, the USS John McCain is named after the father or grandfather of the recent presidential candidate (and thus, isn't a "presidential" ship, like, say, the USS George Washington), I wonder if whether in a generation or two we'll have a line a "presidential" garbage scows? edit: On the other hand, it's pushing two hundred and fifty years, and we still don't have a USS Benedict Arnold. We can be so touchy, at times, about certain things! Isn't it such a shame that we aren't sophisticated, like our cousins in Europe?

It's all the fault of that wicked (and stupid!) [or was that "stupid (and wicked!)" ?] Ronald Reagan!

Destroyers are fragile things, they are designed to address a very limited number of attack and defensive vectors and can not exist alone with out battle group support. My tin foil hat tells me that the focus on a destroyer named "John McCain" in more for political consumption than anything else, since probably an entire battle group is in play. The question is what message does it imply? My guess is the administration is saying both ends of the isle (socialists, conservatives) are united in addressing the threat, which I guess is correct. 2 cents.
