What, and waste all that drink?! Apparently the extensive drainage system that ran from the main pub buildings to the river was only able to withstand significantly less than 20T (it was a listed 1200 AD building which explains why - building requirments must have been less back then if they had them at all). The lorry was reversing into the docking bay and for some reason on that particular day the pipes decided they were going to collapse and took much of the surface of the carpark and the lorry with it. I have never been in a measuarable earthquake - thankfully - but I imagine the damage we suffered was much like that that happens when the ground liquifies: the lorry, carpark and all slid many feet towards the river! No-one was hurt seriously, luckily, though the driver was in shock when the ambulance arrived. It was damned lucky it didn't take the main kitchen structure with it (it was next to the docking bay). After that the entire carpark was taken away to carpark heaven and a new drainage system was laid out and the surface relaid.

Dammit Colin you know full well I can't tell what you mean from that! Well actually looking at Nish's workings I think I should have been able to, but myself and maths maintain a healthy distance at all times. :)

David Wulff wrote: Does that really happen in the States? I've never heard about it over here. Happens here sometimes... At college parties and the like. I was at one last year in one of my mates houses... a very, very , vyer big party... in one of the student villages... about 4 houses had a party together.. about 2 hundread drunken students wandering around between the houses.. not causing any trouble.. .just moving from house to house... The Gardaí [Irish version of the Police] arrived around 2 and decided to "end" the party.. so What did they do??? They just made everybody leave the houses and they then left.. so they basically threw 200 drunken students onto the streets... Lets put it thei way.. the local radio station was the showdown for a residents Gardaí argument the next day :-D Regards, Brian Dela :-)

Paul Riley wrote: That might not be as ridiculous as it sounds I didn't realise it sounded ridiculous - there are loads of differences between the country and the cities, and police involvement is a huge one. When I lived at a village pub (sadly before I started drinking, being seven at the time :~) we just kept on going till the locals ran out of money and/or got too tiered to continue. Heck, sometimes the local councellors would pop in for a soda fight or two, too, or three, or four... You just couldn't have this in a city - that kind of community only exists where everyone known everyone else. The only time the police were ever present were when we we had the till stolen and when a Tolchards 20T lorry disapeared almost entirely when the carpark subsided into the river. I went to a house party in Dawlish (a largish town) that was literally accross the road form the local police station (as in about thirty yards away!) and there was no trouble all night despite the loud music and frequent trips to the local offlicense. :) I guess the attitudes are just totally different; the problems associated with innercity areas are not really present round here to justify those kind of responses. Not that I want to change that though - I would much rather have the police spending their time on important things not wasting it on a bunch of kids having a bit of fun.

David Wulff wrote: I didn't realise it sounded ridiculous Poor turn of phrase. What I meant was that I laughed for about a second and then realised you were pretty much on the mark :) David Wulff wrote: there are loads of differences between the country and the cities :sigh: Yeah, as evidenced by the march tomorrow. May be a good day for us to bitch about fox-hunting. Anyone up for taking the "for" side of the argument? ;) Sufficed for this thread to say that I'm really angry about the way the fox-hunting crowd (with the help of the media) have hijacked the countryside alliance for their own means and are trying to make it look like there's 300K people marching in favour of fox-hunting. One guy (pro-foxhunting) on Sky News earlier actually said that if the government would stop bringing the issue to the table then people would be able to discuss the other important issues involving the countryside. I'd soon sort that out for him - foxhunting banned, next issue anyone? David Wulff wrote: When I lived at a village pub (sadly before I started drinking, being seven at the time) we just kept on going till the locals ran out of money and/or got too tiered to continue. You just couldn't have this in a city - that kind of community only exists where everyone known everyone else. Where everybody knows your naaa-aa-aaame! ;) You're absolutely right though. That's eactly what it's like here. When I lived on the outskirts of Lichfield there was a fair community in our area but if you went into town it was the same old city beer-and-fight-fest. David Wulff wrote: Does that really happen in the States? I've never heard about it over here. As you surmised, it depends on the area. Being a college town, La Crosse tends to need an active police force to deal with constant fights, underage house parties, and petty vandalism. And apparently, saying it's your 21st doesn't get you out of a disorderly conduct ticket... David Wulff wrote: Have a nice qiute morning and try your guess later. Ok, 20101. Nope. I do know that it's 22-something-or-other. Something like 22359 or something. It's been so long since I last looked at it. [edit] I just checked, it's 22839. I was close. :) [/edit] Your bullshit is so effusive I can smell it across oceans... You impress no-one. You are a world-class sleazeball; an incomparable jerk.
