Alternate Access Mapping - Configuration

Hi, I have a site with url http://xyz:1234. I want to acces the site with something say http://mysite. How should configure it using AAM? I tried using Edit Public URLS and using this URL in one of the zones it didi not work. I tried with Add Internal URL as well, still not working. Am I missing something?
