What is a waste is people laying down their rights and submitting themselves to others who only wish to use you for their own gain.

"The task of saving the earth's environment must and will become the central organizing principle of the post-Cold War world." Senator Al Gore Putting People First 1992 ------ "The sacrifice of personal existence is necessary to secure the preservation of the species." Aliens? You will get what you deserve. Ignorant people like you will be wasted first. Go bow to your CCTV surveillance masters bitch. I guess you believe those millions of CCTV cameras in your country doesn't exist. Its just a big conspiracy. I find that hilarious, and a bit sickening.

I'm not bothered. They'll have to find me first. I don't have my name on any records apart from birth and education registers, a bank card (non-working), and a driver's license (invalid at the moment)

You can rationalize it anyway you like, the simple fact that the populace is visually monitored like they are lab rats in a maze remains constant. Not to mention the surveillance of phone and internet communications. No privacy for you slave.

I'm fully aware of the surveillance. I'm also fully aware that there have been many times when that same surveillance has saved many lives by noticing terrorists before they strike. I'm happy to live with a little less privacy, knowing that I can live a longer and fuller life

Third paragraph[^] At least the fifth paragraph[^] A little more information[^] First paragraph[^] Second paragraph[^] I'm aware of the potential for violation of privacy, but I'm relatively happy being watched every now and again while I'm out on the street if it helps prevent the street being blown up. There have indeed been violations, but I'm not aware of any current ones

None of those citations actually provide an example of where they were used to prevent any type of attack. There was one which were used to identify suspected terrorists AFTER they blew up the bombs. These closed circuit television systems were in place in London before the July 7th bombings and this footage is being used to identify suspects and investigate the attacks. Anyways, good old fashion detective work is far more effective and less invasive of the public's basic right to privacy. All in all, based on your citations and my understanding of the systems and powers that be, CCTV cameras are just a way to keep tabs on the general public, just to let them know they are lab rat worker drone slaves not to question their authority that watches over them as they go through the prison they built around them.

Henize, your obsession with British CCTV is almost legendary. Little do you know that in 1998 there were around 3,000 CCTV systems were found in New York City and another 2,200 or so CCTV systems in Chicago. And in the intervening years, these figures have increased. Although you might not have quite the same number as we in Britain allegedly have, nonetheless, you should re-direct your vitriol to your home territory and leave the Brits to their own. But as you seem so interested in CCTV in Britain, here are some facts for you, and READ THEM, especially the references I give at the bottom ... 1. The Data Protection Act of 1998 defines who/how/why/etc they are to be located/operated/etc including the rights of individuals embodied within said act. 2. The European Human Rights legislation embodied in the UK's Human Rights Act defines the extent of intrusion a CCTV may have and the remedies where this has failed and all other aspects where Human Rights need to be protected. 3. The Information Commissioner has product documents (legally binding) defining the responsibilities of public bodies and private enterprise on how/when/why CCTV is to be used. The buck stops with him. He is the authority appointed by the Home Secretary. References : 1. Data Protection Act 1998[^] 2. CCTV Code of Practice[^] 3. Human Rights Act 1998[^] 4. Over 200 documents from the Information Commissioners' Office returned by this search ...[^] You now have sufficient information to keep your mind very busy for the next (perhaps) couple of years.
