Hi, villein! How are you getting on with your Liege Lord's "least-squares linear regression"? If it helps you, it can be done in Excel. Just download the GISS data set, enter it in your spreadsheet and use the appropriate stats and graphing functions. You will find that you can make the trend in temperature fit warming or cooling, merely by choosing an appropriate start date. Let us know how you get on.

You haven't given him the URL for a "MS Excel For Dummies" cracked e-book. So, probably, he will never know or understand that unless you (or somebody else) provides such a URL.

Is this black-propaganda? Oh wait, you don't know what that is. Interesting problem with this whole climategate thing. AP decided to have people ACTUALLY READ ALL THE E-MAILS. They read all of it. And the people they had reading it were pretty well balanced for views. They wanted to see if the whole thing was a sham. After all, showing that it is is a great way to generate sales. What did they find. Scientists are petty, but the data is sound.[^] Whoops. If anything it shows how effing annoying people liek you are to people that actually know what the fuck they are talking about. And as for the infamous "trick" and such... The trick was to put in the real temp for 30 years and not what tree rings showed since the data from tree rings in this range is scarce. Might have something to do with how the tree rings are formed and the age of the tree. They even note when data is not consistant and it is in their papers. Even with all this, the data is pretty overwhelmingly on the side of the trend. TLDR: It's real, stfu. You going to admit you still don't know what black propaganda is?

I'd just like to say, I came to the conclusion of 'typical politics' by reading the paragraphs around the quote mined chunks. They're human, and they aren't going to like someone who calls them evil liars who are evil and lie, then ask them for their research so they can ineptly poke at things they don't understand.

Yea. Having dealt with scientist I don't believe them to be some sort of robotic data collecting machines quietly trying to do their thing with the personality of a squirrel. Most of the scientists I know are passionate and having been called liars and then asked for their data constantly I'd expect them to go ballistic privately. Being in the public eye and having your data be discredited because of a bad reputation does no one any good so they keep it private. I'm sure there are some scientists out there that are amazing trolls on internet sites for "believers" and climate skeptics. At least 1 or 2 likely are internet savvy enough not to get caught.

I was going to do something similar as the next step.

And, unless it contains a ready made solution to 'cut and paste', nothing will be produced.

I'm tempted to produce my own - you know the sort of thing: Installing Excel: 1) Boot up your computer 2) Ensure you have enough space on your hard drive by typing "Format c: /s" and press the ENTER key... Worth a try?

How many unsavy computer people have you had to deal with and explain things too. I've had plenty who act as though they don't have ears to hear you with.
