When you start your laptop, press F8 while the bios screen is showing (I find tap-tap-tapping on the F8 key to work the best), then when you get the boot menu, go into Safe Mode. From Safe Mode, open control panel and system, then on (I think it's the advanced tab from memory) click onto Startup and Recovery settings or something like that, then untick the box that says automatic reboot on error... Restart your computer, and when the blue screen of death comes up, you will get an error message without the restart, therefore will know what's causing the crash. Enjoy!

Adding to that, if you can get to safe mode, and assuming you have windbg installed you can debug the minidump files that are located in C:\Windows\minidump, and see exactly where the stop occured and what caused it. Although if the stop is generated before the service that captures the dumps has started that's a moot point. When I worked for Dell, being able to get a customer's minidumps were invaluable. Being able to see what processes caused the stop, saved me from reinstalling the OS on over 100 systems.
