File type associations in windows vista

I have an app TFOrderManagement.exe which I wish to associate with the file type .omf yet my pc just doesn't seem to believe me when I tell it do that. I can associate .omf with every single exe on my pc other than the one I want - my pc just ignores me when i tell it. It seems to work on everybody elses pc except mine. I have tried just about everything including messing around with the registry but nothing works. Anybody have a clue why my pc has decided it knows best?
