I hate him now. Not because he's racist, but because he's an ignorant ass. He was never a great actor IMO. Loved Mad Max tho.

Payback was arguably the best anti-hero story I have watched in a long time. "Few people know how much their life is worth. I do."

OK. Personally, I find that the films of his I have watched in recent times were formulaic, and dull. Payback was an OK movie, but nothign to write home about, for me.

The trick is to not have him write, direct, or have anything to do with the movie aside from being in it and shooting/stabbing/running people over. If the movie does not have him killing people, it sucks.

Ok, so ragnaroknrol and I got into a little side conversation about actors and such... So how about a thread NOT about politics? Favorite Actors: 1) Gary Oldman 2) Edward Norton Favorite Actresses: 1) Christina Ricci 2) Natalie Portman 3) Zooey Deschanel Let's hear your lists... This should be more relaxing than another Fed debate.

Males add: Tom Hanks (for roles in Green Mile, Road to Perdition) Samuel L Jackson (for Pulp fiction and others but minus marks for Snakes on a plane) Females add: Whoopi Goldberg (early stuff, pre STNG) Jeri Lee Ryan (since I could stare at her in her Seven costume for hours).

Yeah I just thought he was a great actor, I don't really care what he thinks behind the scenes. I loved the alien movie he was in, Signs. A lot of people didn't like it though...

Yes, I thought that film was hideous. In my mind, he was a good Aussie actor who went to hollywood, made it big, and does crappy films now. Nothing has ever beaten him in Gallipoli or Mad Max 1 and 2.

LOL - Mel is just not high on my list of people I think make good action heroes. He's way older than me, and I am too old for that.

I know a woman that went to GenCOn dressed as 7 of 9. At one point a cast member called to her from 10 ft away and asked her to come over. He thought it was Jeri. Have you seen Leverage? She's on it currently as their grifter.

It's on the TNT network. Amazingly fun series. A washed up insurance investigator (who was amazing at catching some of the best criminals) getsteamed up with some of those same criminals and after they get double-crossed they decide to teach the person that used them a lesson. After that they like working together so much they start doing it for normal people being screwed somehow by someone that is a crook of sorts. They have a "retrieval specialist," a "thief," a "hacker," a "grifter," and the mastermind. It's like the A team but with a lot less shooting of tires and a lot more fun. Jeri Ryan is their temporary grifter while the original one is off finding herself. (The actress had a baby) It's in the second season and the wife and I both like it. FYI: Parker is crazy.

He has good roles, but I never liked him... He doesn't really sink into the role (Except perhaps for Forrest Gump)... When you see him in a movie, you don't see the character... You see him. On the other hand... Gary Oldman, my favorite, sinks so deeply into the roles that half the time you don't even know he's in the movie. Some of his major roles: * Zorg in Fifth Element * Sirius Black in the Harry Potter movies * Jim Gordon in the new Batman movies * The bad guy (I forget his name) in The Professional (Leon) * Rosencrantz (I think) in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead He's a totally different person in every film... That's talent... Tom Hanks is a decent enough actor, but he's still "Tom Hanks" no matter what his character is supposed to be.

Yeah, I see your point. Hanks is always Hanks whereas someone like Di Caprio IS the character they are playing. I was totaly vlown away by him in Blood DIamond, he played the part in a completely convincing way. But Hanks has done some of the besy films ever made, Private Ryan and Gump, and acted them superbly. Perhaps its his voice thats just to distinctive.

Ooh, Samuel L Jackson... Very good one. I should add him to my top list.

Hmm, but of a one hit wonder? Pulp Ficiton was great, but they were all great in that film and what else has Jackson done? Comparted him to Alec Guinness OK, from a different generation, but he played Faisal in Lawrence of Arabia, and Obi Wan Kenobe in Star Wars as well as other deeply flawed characters such as in Bridge over the river Kwai.

Alec Guinness, I really know as Obi Wan... Not really into "classic" movies, so haven't seen him in anything else. That said, he was pretty much the best actor in the entire Star Wars franchise. (Yes, I know Natalie Portman is on my list, but I try to forget that SW:Ep 1-3 were ever created, let alone the fact that she was in them) You're right, though... Now that I think about it, Jackson probably doesn't deserve to be in my top three... I'll have to think of a good #3 for the male side... Kinda hard to stand with Gary Oldman.
