I am reading an interesting book called 'the end of food' which talks about the way our global food systems work, and why they are not sustainable. CSS should avoid it, it blows away his theory that there's an infinite amount of arable land and no reason why the earth couldn't support an infinite number of people.

OK, think of a closed system with 100$ recycling, including the dead. OKm its a bit soylent green, but if food is grown hydroponically then the issue regarding population is one only of the speed with which nutrients can be recovered and turned into food. The greater the population, the greater the speed needs to be.

People who've never done algebra tend to have problems understanding that the equation has to be balanced no matter what you do to it. There's a line from the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still where Klautu (sp?) says, "You treat the Earth like you treat each other." He never goes on to specify exactly what that is, but I think the audience could catch the meaning. Disposable is the word I would use.
