What is it with Americans and Conspiracy theories?

Is it because you think your government lies to you? Over in Britain we actually do believe the IRA blew up Harrods, and Canary warf. We do not think it was a government plot to get rid of AlFayed! We also believe that Scott went to the pole, rater than faking it in a film studio somewhere. Why do so many Americans doubt that what is just basic and simple is the truth?

I suppose that if you were to say something, for example, a untruth, often enough and loud enough you create a following and eventually it becomes a kind-of truth. And there is the gullibility factor as well. Fortunately, most Americans can see through this web of deceit and disregard these conspiracies. Others, like our very own Joshua Henize (CSS), alas, are fully and comprehensively taken in and Alex Jones makes a nice living out of the gullible.

If it was not such a huge generalisation it would be funny. Every country has it's share of idiots, mind you they do seem to be pretty thick on the ground in the US. Maybe they just yell louder.

They certainly do seem to apply a surprising level of competency to organisations that don't normally achieve those levels.

they are taught to question government, which is good. When they run out of intelligent questions, they start to ask dumb ones, which is bad.
