A group of British activists turned a potentially confrontational run in with London Metropolitan police into an educational experience recently, producing a viral youtube video entitled “How To Escape A Terror Stop”. The group, known as The Love Police, reacted calmly and politely when confronted by police outside the Tower of London. After making informative announcements on a bullhorn to crowds of tourists, employees at the Tower made a call to the Met, who promptly dispatched an Inspector, two Sergeants, five officers and four police cars. The police attempted to search the activists under section 44 of the terrorism act, but received more than they bargained for. Part 1[^] Part 2[^]

Being unable to express his own opinions, Captain SeeVee cut and pasted the above from PrisonPlanet[^] (or some similar site). Perhaps the Captain could inform as to what this incident means to him. I would have been much more impressed had they attempted this without witnesses.

What little comment he did make is factually incorrect, at least one sergeant was city of London not Met (probably some of the officers too) this is a separate force to and completely independent of The Met. As for sending a Inspector, in UK Police rank an inspector is the next grade up from a Sergeant, as this crossed forces this would seem prudent don’t you think? (oh the Met has no jurisdiction within the tower IIRC)

Shhh! If he tries to comment using rational thoughts all of his posts will stop and the world might implode.

Actually the Met does control the area outside of the tower, the City Of London police operate miles away in The City Of London, ie Westminster area. There is also Parks Police, River Police and British Transport Police, all of who operate in London. It ought to be noted that WITHIN a royal palace (eg the Tower or Parliament), this is policed by people who exist outside of the normal jurisdiction of the law, ie soldiers and yeomanry, and seriously do not piss them off!

That's incorrect: City Of London Police[^] Up to a few months ago I was working on Lower Thames Street near Sugar Quay (which is next door to the Tower of London) and often saw City Police roaming around.

The city of london boundary runs down two sides of the tower so you have the met on two sides and city on two ! you also have the Airport police, Port of Tilbury Police, miltary police and Ministry of Defence Police (and i believe there is actually a police force in london with a force strength of 3 but i cannot remmeber details, I think its something like the post office tower - may even be the tower of london)

Indeed it is. The south-eastern edge, I believe. The place I worked at owned a dock on the Embankment where we could eat lunch. Great in the summer (and, before you ask, closed in poor weather).
