WinXP SP1 Rant / Warning
-
Usually I am a champion of Win XP, I have it on my machines by choice (well, the Pro edition). So last night when my laptop informed me that SP1 was waiting to be downloaded, I thought "Cool - all those bugs other people have come across must be fixed now", and installed it. Now I have a bug in my outlook express :( . My husband and I each have an email address from our ISP, and use them on different Outlook Express "Identities". Since installing SP1 we can no longer switch between the identities. The only way I found to do it is to set the wanted identity to default, and reopen Outlook. Seems longwinded, and I'm sure this was not what MS intended. Anyone else installed SP1? Any other experiences? Anyone know how I can hack into the registry or something and fix it (I didn't archive my settings before installing :-O ) Thanks :)
I've always heard that there was an idea behind Win ME... I still can't figure out what that was... anyboy know??? I;ve herad the idea was that it was supposed to be n operating system but I doubt this. - Brian Delahunty

Do you just have a single user login on windows? If you set up seperate user accounts for you and your husband, each will get totally seperate outlook settings (which saves the awkwardness of oe's identities) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

MS Newsgroups to the resuce! :-D There are currently two workarounds:
- Click on files/identities/manage identities and remove the checkmark in "Use this identity when starting a program". For more information, see Q329084[^] - "You Cannot Switch Identities in Outlook Express After You Install Windows XP SP1"
- Before changing identity, Press F1. The Outlook Express "Help" window will open (and leave it running in the background). Now click on FILE > SWITCH IDENTITY and select your other identity. Outlook Express will ask the question "Do you wish to keep the same connection". Answer "YES". It will go to the identity you select.
The second option sounds like the best option.

We probably should have taken this route - he has a user account, but prefers to use mine as he likes the way it's set up ;P so I just added his mail to my user account.

Thanks! Hopefully it will be permanent, and we won't have to do it each time. Will try it tonight! :-D
