So, when I was a teenager, I spent a lot of time looking for porn. I hit gold from time to time. Later in my teens, I got hold of a couple of VHS XXX movies, so I pretty much got the whole enchilada at that point. It occurs to me that 30 years before that, most men probably only saw one vagina in their lives, except the one they glimpsed on the way out. Today, my tenant has a 14 yo boy who is always online, always watching moves on his notebook and almost certainly is getting more of an eyeful than I ever did, at a much younger age. I don't believe that porn leads to rape or anything stupid like that, but I do wonder what affect this has on our society as a whole, and on the attitude of men towards women in particular.

I think porn has been around for a long time. It may be easier to get a hold of now, but I wonder how accurate your assumption about the number of vaginas most men saw is. I do agree that the ease of access might contribute to a skewed view of women, though.

Advertising changes the way people behave, even when people know it is advertising. Why shouldn't other things we watch change the way we behave? I don't know how porn changes behavior, and I suspect different people react differently. You spent your time, money and energy on something, if it is your focus, it changes how you act, just by changing your focus. I don't know if it is the number of vaginas people see that matters, but I know the amount of focus they spend on seeing them that is a problem.

Yeah, I am sure that a 12 yo watching porn has a different affect to a gynocologist going to work.

I am sure it's existed, I just think it's easier and easier to get, at younger and younger ages. I am sure a lot of guys in the past had no real opportunity to get it, regardless of it existing.

When I was a kid we had a woods where porn would magically appear from time to time.I think the easy availability of porn and the sheer quantity nowadays maybe takes some of the novelty factor away for kids and they will become quickly bored with it.

My wife's OB-GYN is a man. Giving her an exam he spoke the following. "I hate this part. I just like delivering babies, that's why I do this." I don't think anyone going to med school tries to be an OB-GYN for free looks. I think by the point where they decide they are well aware that it will stop being erotic after about a week. As for the original point: Not sure it matters as much. You bring up your child to be respectful and to understand right and wrong and make sure it sticks. Do that and no amount of porn is going to suddenly change their attitude. Especially if you talk to them about it.

I did that too, but in the end I did an analysis of effort to reward ratios and gave up on the girls.

Attending: This is Dr. F the medical student, is it alright if we do the pelvic exam together today? Patient: Um, sure. Attending: *to F* Okay, so put on these gloves, lube the fingers, pry the vulva apart with your other fingers, insert your lubed fingers, and palpate the pelvis from above. Fisticuffs: *nervously* Okay, Dr. Attending, my fingers are inside the vagina. I don't feel any masses on the anterior vaginal wall. Attending: Do you feel anything else? Fisticuffs: Er... no? Attending: Can you feel the uterus? Fisticuffs: *stares blankly* Attending: You *do* know where the uterus is supposed to be, don't you? Fisticuffs: Yessss...? Attending: So do you feel it? Is the uterus anteverted or retroverted? Fisticuffs: The uterus is not palpable, so I guess it's retroverted? Attending: Let's see... *switches places* Attending: No, it's a normal, anteverted uterus. What percentage of women have a retroverted uterus? Fisticuffs: ...err... Attending: Go read up on that. Also, you didn't comment on whether or not the vulva itself had any lesions or abnormalities, which for your board exams would lose you points. Read about the common manifestations of skin disease on the vulva tonight and tell me about them tomorrow. Fisticuffs: Did the vulva have any abnormalities? Attending: No. I challenge anyone to get aroused when something like this happens every single time.

I did that too, but in the end I did an analysis of effort to reward ratios and gave up on the girls.
