I just wanted to acknowledge that wine drinkers are the easiest people on earth to buy a birthday present for. It is my mom's birthday today and she luuuuurrvveeess wine. So I went to the wine emporium, found the most expensive bottle of red wine I could afford, bought it, wrapped it and sent it. She llllllllluuuuuurrrrrrvveess it. I am hard to buy presents for, are you? and Why? * p.s. It was a 1998 Merlot by Meerlust

The other week I was thinking long and hard about what I really wanted for my birthday. The things I really wanted (an SLR Camera, new sound system for my car, new suit, UV resistant plexy glass photo frames, a new microwave) were just too expensive for my friends or family to get me. Their only other options were books (but which book they ask?) and some new shorts. Not exactly a wealth of options lol. My dad and mom were easy to buy for though: The new South African Concise Oxford Dictionary for my dad (he loves dictionaries) and the wine for my mom. My sister is easy (music) and Janina easier (a evening dress or a bikini.) My friend is the easiest though: His birthday falls on the release of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar

I am terrible to buy presents for (except in the case of my younger sister who always gets me nice earrings) Last year was good for getting others presents, being in Germany there were different shops plus a couple of great festivals on. Elaine (retailly challenged fluffy tigress) Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

Paul Watson wrote: LOL well I don't have your problem. Really? Sounds like exactly the same problem to me. I could list a hundred things I'd like for Christmas but they're all things I wouldn't dare ask for. And thus I'll get the same assorted selection of naff t-shirts, naff CDs, etc. I have to be very careful about pointing to something, joking, and saying "how cool is that?" It's slightly demoralising when I spend a lot of time thinking about presents for other people but then I realise that I couldn't possibly buy Christmas presents for me either. :-D I suppose this year I should just ask the missus to get everyone together and buy me the telescope I haven't managed to justify buying myself yet. One cool present would be a vast improvement over the usual tour and saying "ooh, lovely" a lot. Paul I think there're pieces of me you've never seen - Tori Amos, Tear in Your Hand

Thanks for the great idea. Today is my wife's birthday too. I'll be picking up some chocalates and a card for her, but the idea of a nice, expensive bottle of wine for her had completely escaped me. Chris

I too am terrible to buy presents for. Typically I wont ask for anything, preferring instead to get a card. The way a person writes a card is far more valuable to me than a gift they bare.

Paul Watson wrote: All the best to Mrs. Meech then. LOL. It's a good thing my wife doesn't venture into CP. Other than tolerating the school's call her Mrs. Meech, she usually gets pretty vocal that she is !Mrs. Meech. She never changed her name when we got married. Her best story about keeping her name though was being asked by another woman if it was legal to *NOT* change her name when we got married. A good thing about her keeping her name, is that we don't get hounded by telemarketers. When I answer and they say, "Good evening Mr Rutherford", I just tell them they have the wrong number and we get crossed off the list. Likewise, when she answer's and they say, "Good evening Mrs Meech", she tells them the same thing. We average less than a call a month from callus-interuptus types. I'll have a look for Meerlust, though. Any others worth a mention, since here in Canada, the selection of SA wines might be a little smaller than yours :) Chris

I've received anything from a pack of chewing gum wrapped in Sunday's funnies to an airplane ticket/Eurail passe to travel Europe for a month. Typically, I get books, CDs, clothes, some type of tool or utensil for around the apartment or kitchen. Recently, for my b-day next month, my brother bought us some tickets to see Tori Amos in concert. :-D I always feel people are better at buying things for me than the other way around, which gets me to spend more time trying to find something, so I usually end out doing pretty well. My favorite gifts have a story attached to them. Either it has a meaning between the giver and myself, or it's unique in some way on its own, how its made, how it works, or typical of some region associated with that person, etc... I need to spend more time talking to them I guess.:-O BW "I've been accused of vulgarity. I say that's bullshit." - Mel Brooks.

Just don't pretend to be a snake around a Meerkat, they kind of like eating snakes apparently. But I am sure, not from any personal experience, that after about ten bottles of Meerlust a twisted person would fine a Meerkat, well, lustful... Hey you brought it up!

I'm rather easy to buy for, as i'm always happy to receive food (i like to eat...) or hats (i loose them...).
