http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s111-3217&tab=amendments[^] You wanted an audit here you go. Take a look at "S.Amdt. 3738 by Sen. Sanders [I-VT]. amendment 9" on the list. I'll be looking forward to it if they actually get it done.

Expected response: It won't be a real audit, it will be a controlled audit. :)

Yeah, he won't be happy unless they invite him into the Fed offices, turn off all of the cameras, let him into the file room, and leave him in there unsupervised for a full day so he can "examine" the records. He would, of course, have to bring his own pens and whiteout.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

I understand, but it has to make it into law first. He wouldn't understand it anyway. He's just been wining about it for so long and brings it up from time to time. Barry Sanders is a democratic socialist too by the way. His own self description I heard in an interview.

It is watered down and the House version contains some language that actually give the Fed more power. The bill was sabotaged, but in the Senate version something was added that might make it worthwhile. (9) S.Amdt. 3738 by Sen. Sanders [I-VT] To require the non-partisan Government Accountability Office to conduct an independent audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System that does not interfere with monetary policy, to let the American people know the names of the recipients of over $2,000,000,000,000 in taxpayer assistance from the Federal Reserve System, and for other purposes.

Go, Bernie, go! I first met Bernie Sanders back in the mid-70s. He was hanging out outside the unemployment benefits office in Burlington, Vt, handing out copies of the Socialist Workers Party newspaper and trying to round people up for a road trip to Chicago for a party convention. He went on to become first an alderman, IIRC, and then the best mayor Burlington ever had. And the rest is history... Maybe a few more independents in Congress would be a good thing, eh? :-D

From my experience most people are either too apathetic, or dependent on others for an opinion to be independents. I would like to see a few more independents in Congress though, too.
