So we've basically lost our shirts on our house and property, and are just hoping to short sale the bastard and recover a portion of our down, right? The wife is heading out to the new digs this weekend, and I was going to hang out for a few weeks and get the property on the market... ... and this afternoon a lightning strike cooked our water pump. We're on a well, so now we have no water, and are probably looking at a repair bill of several thousand dollars (having a well rig on the property to pull the pump from ~250 feet down). :wtf: :mad: :rolleyes:

The wonderful thing about the Darwin Awards is that everyone wins, especially the members of the audience.
Good thought - I don't know if the homeowner's policy covers it or not. One more thing to check into in the morning. I'm just getting ready to run into town and buy enough water to get through tomorrow, anyway. Did I mention it's about 30 miles to town? :mad:

You can rely on something like this to just make you life just that little bit more delightful... :rolleyes: :sigh: Good luck with it, and I second checking your insurance policy... over here, something like that would be covered under "fusion" or "motor burnout". YMMV.

Storm damage is usually covered. Wind blows your fence down, I think possibly the damage if your roof leaks but not for fixing the roof. I would expect lightening strikes to probably be there.

I'll check it out. I haven't actually climbed down into the little subterannean chamber that houses the pressure tank, sensor and pump circuitry yet to check things out. (It's about 150 feet out front of the house, it's dark, I need to drop a ladder in... I can probably think of a few more excuses to wait till morning, if you like. :-D )Maybe it's something that can be fixed there, rather than the pump itself. All I really know for sure so far is that it isn't the breaker.

:-D Actually, I can report (at least temporary) success! There is a leak in a fitting at the bottom of the pressure tank. Not severe enough to compromise pressure to the house, but it keeps the underground area wet. That, coupled with what was probably a nick in wiring insulation at the pump relay box, had resulted in a short in the wiring. Rewired the box and we're back online. Have to get the leak fixed, but for the moment we're good. And yup, it's covered under the homeowner's policy, with a $500 deductible. :thumbsup:
