Just have to share my frustrations. Personnally I find that Rational Rose to not be intuitively arranged at all. But it is the offical tool for UML for my company. So any other alternative must be compatible with it. I have tried several other tools and they all work better (by that I mean easier for the occasional user to start working with.) All of the other tools I tried work with XMI and import the data as part of the basic tools features. Rose has to have an add on and when I read back in a XMI file from the other tools I get an message saying "No Errors fund but this vendor is not recognised by Rational so the file will not be imorted." EGAD what black mail:mad::mad: Buy the way, I manually go in to the files change the tool name to "Rational Rose 98" and it works. Again back to black mail from Rational.

On the one hand I can see the sense in it - it allows Rational to treat the import differently should the exporting program do something differently (though that is really the third parties problem and not Rational's), but for gods sakes they should show some sort of "it is not recognised but do you want to import it anyway" message. It said there where no errors, so it must be possible. Unless of course their licensing prohibits third parties from exporting unless they pay royalties or the like, which I suppose it is their right to do, in which case... EGAD!

I agree. RR is expensive, way too painful to figure out, especially, as you said, for the occasional user. Can't they make it as simple to perform as other activities are, for the ummm, occasional user??? Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

Does anyone else find it interesting, that a company sporting Grady Booch [UML/RUP author and advocate] as its chief scientist produces software that falls far short of common standards for usability and reliability? Granted, a bad design is a bad design no matter what framework you prop it up on, but still - you'd have to think this would be rather a black eye for him on the lecture circuit...

Grady Booch is a sanctimonious a**h*le. Another typical academic who can't write software but thinks they know how to tell you how to do it.
