Media Blackout on the Oil Spill

Basically the United States of America is are blacking out the fact that they do not want this stuff cleaned up. Please, humor me; watch this. And then follow his link to listen to the mp3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJHf3Tn7mJY[^] Again, this goes to the idea that we really are "fascist". Think about it seriously. Cuz we all love regulations.

Why? What would be the rationale?

The mainstream media is only reporting a sliver of the truth, demanded by the government. Marine life is dying, to be sure (we know this). But it's spreading, and now heading to the basin of the Atlantic. BUT Independent media are trying to get cameras in there, and they can't. They are being arrested if they try, or even if they talk to the mainstream journalists. Nobody in the area (Louisiana, Mississippi, etc) actually want to talk about it either. Not to be bringing up bad times or anything, but doesn't this sound at all like the way things were on and after 9/11/01? It's just strange. Here's the link to the mp3 if you're interested. http://cdn2.ash1.k-srv.info/camelotproductions/jamesfox2010.mp3[^]

Yeah, I've heard all over that the gulf stream might take it right around Florida and up the east coast.

Can't listen to an mp3 either (No sound but an internal speaker, believe it or not), but after a little googling, I'm getting the impression that BP is trying to manage the media situation, and the Coast Guard was instructed to assist BP wherever they're needed. I can understand the motivations, but I do agree that it shouldn't be allowed. If they were keeping journalists back for safety reasons, I might be able to understand that (But the beaches aren't actually DANGEROUS unless you're going to start drinking the water), but this does seem like BP is going overboard. I think this is just PR damage control going too far. Hopefully this'll get a bit more publicity, and the watchdog groups will step in and make sure everyone plays nice. Wouldn't chalk this up to fascism.

BP doesn't want to go out of business. Even though they probably will anyway, with all of the boycotting that's been going on.

That is extremely unlikely. The only possibility right now is a takeover bid as the share price is so low leaving them vastly undervalued. That still does not explain the alleged blackout: presumably you buy into conspiracy theories.

Sorry, but that is a direct contradiction. Amendment 1 to the Constitution for the United States of America: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I realize A) that we're not talking about law making and 2) that you are talking about a corporation managing a completely different SECTOR of the market, but think of the roles here: BP is working with the government, and the government is telling the media what to do. It's immoral, illegal and unlawful. Men need to know the truth, I'm sorry.

Always looking for blackjack. Or maybe White Frank. One of the two.Don't count BP out just yet... They have assets totaling $235 BILLION... Credit Suisse estimated the cost of the cleanup to be maybe as high as $37 billion... Even if the bad PR really kills them, all they have to do is change their name and start a new marketing campaign... They're not going anywhere.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Which is pretty much why the US is being bought to hold the independent media out of this. Put two and two together. But yes you're right, they may not be boycotted enough to make a difference.

I think in this case, the government is working to support BP... My guess would be that the Coast Guard was instructed to "Do whatever you can to assist them", and they're just not questioning BP's instructions. Assuming this, it's just a matter of someone bringing this to light. I do agree that this needs to stop, but don't assume that everything is part of the grand scheme of the Obama administration... Big government is a lot of right-hand/left-hand... As in, nobody knows what anyone else is doing. Maybe it's the Obama administration trying to keep things quiet, or maybe it's BP overreaching their mandate and breaking the law... Maybe it's both. I would put the odds slightly in favor of BP doing something stupid, and the government being too uncoordinated to stop it. I don't think the administration is quite stupid enough to risk this kind of PR hit intentionally, given how much they're hurting already.

Stopping independent media altogether, yes. Inhibiting the mainstream media from doing their job correctly, yes. Stopping the mainstream altogether, no.

Always looking for blackjack. Or maybe White Frank. One of the two.And how do they do that ? It strikes me as a story the independent media would generate to create illusions of adequacy.

Don't worry: you'll get no answer: it's just an ersatz CSS - there is no logic; just conspiracies and paranoia.

To be fair, while his beliefs at first glance look similar to CSS, this is a guy who is able to discuss rationally. I don't think he deserves to be lumped in with CSS, he will discuss and defend his views. I don't buy them, but that doesn't mean he's like CSS, whose sin is not having strange ideas, but being incapable of discussing them without resorting to insults.

They have the national guard at their disposal. I'd say that's a great start. The guy (if you could listen to the MP3) said he felt as if he were being watched when he started taking shots. I don't know, maybe you could listen to the file instead of writing it off so fast.
