The BP oil spill will help Obama with his carbon tax agenda.

Would a congressman ever grab a kid on the street by the neck because the kid asked him if he liked Obama?

So, I saw Iron Maiden in Houston. I met a guy who talked to me at length about how awesome Australia is, b/c when the US gets in any sort of fight, we're there ( I hate that about us, not that I think we should never go, but that I think we should think for ourselves and decide when to go ). He went on to tell me that Obama caused the oil spill, and let it happen so that he could get good press from it. It was an interesting conversation. I felt it was a fascinating window in to the right wing mind. I considered asking him what he thought of the Fed, but then the show started. I saw a Ron Paul bumper sticker on a car full of rednecks, too.

This guy's been watching too much Fox News, News Max, etc. I was having my weekly IHOP breakfast with the wife on Saturday a few weeks ago when I saw a guy with a T-Shirt saying "I'll Keep My Guns, Freedom, & Money... You Can Keep The 'Change!' ". I live in a pretty red state.

I'm still seeing McCain/Palin 08 stuff too. I think I've seen Obama stuff too, but it's been a really long time if I have. I'd like to see her run again too. The Daily Show episodes from that would be awesome. Not to mention it would make it easier to tell who to vote for. If Ron Paul wins the GOP nominee that would help too. Anytime fascism, socialism, communism, Nazi, etc is invoked its usually a prudent time to double check their supposed facts and your bank account for fraud. I doubt another BP spill of this size again in a month or ever anytime soon with this still going on would change this country to getting off of oil. People don't like change and the American love affair with cars is long and deep. We have gotten too used to living beyond our own resources while polluting someone else's home. Thank you 3rd world countries. People may not like it but legislation and economic suffering(free market), self inflicted or otherwise, are the only ways to force people to change their way of life in a more responsible way. Until that is fixed this latest oil spill won't change a thing. Do you think the nature of humanity needs to change?

With the way politics work I believe the spill will help the right as even if they do nothing they will say it is the fault of big business and our dependents on oil. However, no solution will be available to start not using oil. By the way how much oil was used to fly the President to the gulf coast four times? He can do nothing there that he could do just as well in DC. If the government is serious about ending oil dependence then they should do without. Neither side will do that and the left will say they have no choice as the right cause the problem, where-as they could try to fix the problem instead of fix blame. Also the government will not fix anything. They can throw money at it, but it will be some person in a home lab that comes up with the best idea and we can hope whom ever is in power at the time does not cave in to lobbyist and support the idea.

Conspiracy theorists at it again. I hope I'm wrong, but I fear that we don't even know the true extent of environmental damage that has happened and yet to occur. Even more worrisome is the economic fallout because of that damage. It may be the trigger for that second recession many have predicted but has yet to take shape. Hopefully I'm just being to negative in my reasoning. :)

Never said there wasn't people who believed it. What I don't believe is that you have met a sufficient number of people who believe that way to paint the entire group of millions with that same brush.

To be clear, I meant that I was getting a window into the extreme end of the right wing. That both sides of politics trivialise and simplify the opposition based on such extremes is stupid, and I wasn't doing that at all.

Yep, I would say that extremists on both ends of the spectrum have the same mind, just a different focus. To me it's better just to label them extremists.

That's the beauty of belief. You can belief anything you want with some or no facts what so ever. That's called faith. While I haven't met all of them or even most of them, just about every one of them has said things like this to me in one form or another. Usually its pretty predictable that if they think something like Obama is a socialist, than it follows that he wasn't born in the US or something else similar to that. Some people behaved similarly to Bush/Chaney, but the difference I saw was no one was looking for a birth certificate or calling the other side traitors, fascist, or unamerican. When people start throwing around terms like that I stop listening to them because the conversation has turned into a kind of hyperbole throw up that has no purpose, logic or reason in solving any problem or based in any reality I'm a part of.

Yes, and we're all racist as well. Such a great use of science, your observation. Plenty of stats on that one.

Whew, your head is far up your ass if you believe obama isn't a socialist. You have been drinking too much kool-aid. Grape flavor no doubt.

Well, the welfare state is socialist, progressive income tax is socialist, public education is socialist, public health is socialist. I prefer to refer to Obama as a socialist, but he could be referred to as a corporatist. Corporatist, socialist, communist, facist, its all tyranny. The most accurate label for Obama would be tyrant.

Well, as they said in The Patriot: "Would you tell me please, Mr. Howard, why should I trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away? An elected legislature can trample a man's rights as easily as a king can." The Congress is of two houses. One house is of 100 tyrants, the other of 435. Then there's the Chief tyrant, called Mr. President. Still more lie in the SCOTUS. 9 of them.
