"Homo sapiens will become extinct, perhaps within 100 years," he told The Australian this week. [^] Which apparently fell on deaf ears so accustomed are we to hearing doommongers like this ranting away. As a scpetic to any one here who agrees, I'll take a $100 on this guy being wrong. Any takers?

See, these guys damage the reputation of competent scientists, in the same way that CSS damages the reputation of Libertarians. Are we all going to die? Sure, eventually. Is it going to happen in the next hundred years? Probably not.

Yeah, there are nuts on either side... But to be fair... This guy is 95 years old. It's possible that he's not all there anymore... And the other guy they mentioned, Lovelock, is best known for his "Gaia hypothesis", which isn't widely accepted.
