Life is a game

You can not win this game
That would be true if you looked at life as a game of tennis, but it is more like a game of soccer, so you just contribute as much as you can and hope your team wins. So to speak. On the other hand, even the human race itself is not eternal, so the game can't be won after all, but it is fun to watch and sometimes participate.
The bearing of a child takes nine months, no matter how many women are assigned.

I especially enjoy watching this game. Watching mortals' futile attempts to 'win' the game amuses me.

Ah, but it feels so good to be alive. Sometimes it's even better than the game.

I disagree. On average, being alive is a pain. That might be worth it if you could actually do something with your life, but you can't because it's too short. Any finite lifespan would be too short. In the end you'd always lose. The game doesn't end until you lose, the only way to 'win' is to make sure the game doesn't end - except that's impossible.

- listen to your genes and reproduce -> You Die. Game Over. You lose. - win from the Inner Animal and don't reproduce -> you still die. You lose. - save people who would have died -> they will still die, just later. More importantly, You Die! You lose. - "make a difference" -> good for you. You still die. Loser. Anything else? - go into cryogenic sleep -> who knows, this may be your best bet.

True, but just one look at a young women's behind, cold beer or a well designed database makes it a lot more tollerable.

Yes, but it is a team play. You pick up other people's work and someone will continue yours.

I wholeheartedly agree with that, so why is it worth playing? Don't ask me, I'm just a sysadmin here.

Add 4. Rule the Universe to the plan and we're in business.

That shouldn't be too hard - immortality and careful planning go a long way. Consider it added :)
Right. I'm off to practice zero gravity movement.

Are you feeling a little depressed Harold?

Among other things - have to be prepared. :)

Not more than usual. I found out about the futility of everything when I was about 4 or 5. It's a good thing really because I know I don't have to try - I can be as lazy as I want to.
Life is not about winning or losing, it is about the journey. And a man is not judged by how long he lives, but by how well. Travel well and do good by stealth, remain quiet but carry a big stick, rush yourself and take time for others.
