NY Times headline - 'Governors Voice Grave Concerns on Immigration'. If, after reading that, you assumed that the governors of border states were worried about immigration, you'd be wrong. The lead-off sentence: 'Democratic governors expressed concern that the Obama administration’s suit against Arizona’s new immigration law could cost a vulnerable Democratic Party in the fall elections.' So they aren't worried that the administration is doing to little, nor are they worried that Arizona, e.g., has gone too far. The only aspect of the issue of any concern to them is how it might affect their chances of re-election. What absolutely spineless, worthless scumbags. X|

And this surprises you? Animals are governed by two main instincts... Survival and reproduction. For a politician, survival = Keeping their job = Getting re-elected. Reproduction translates to... Well... I think we're all getting tired of the weekly sex scandals.
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

No, not particularly; it's just that it's usually more of an unspoken understanding that survival is their primary motivator. This is just so brazen it indicates a total disconnect from reality; it's as though we're all supposed to understand that no problem, no matter how significant or pressing in the larger scheme of things, should be seen first through the lens of their personal political fortunes.

Sounds about right: self-serving politicians moaning about laws, etc, that might damage their chances of re-election: it's never about the country, it's only about them.
