Dead men walking

No, not the movie this time. and it's men as in "all men, be they male or female" Most of us have lost someone close, and we deal with it one way or another*. I just want to share an idea which IMO is marvellous. I just need to relax from 2+ days of fiesta - dias the los muertos. Basically what they do is decorate the graves of their beloved with flowers, candy, fruits, and a meal they liked to eat. They light candles to guide the dead back to this plane, so they can spend a day with their families. The whole thing is embedded more or less into a "constant fiesta" - although there's certainly time for mourning, the idea is more just to spend a happy day with the people we lost, then bringing them back to their rest again. AFAIK this way is unique (didn't find similar in other cultures - anyone enlighten me?), and is a wonderful thing in contrast to the western "mourn and get over it", or the "permanent presence" found in some african (?) cultures. Just to share this. with love and brands the dead will never be sorry. *) which is why this post goes to the soapbox, where only bold men and manly women dare to walk

It sounds kind of cool. I often feel western culture is missing on the basic elements on spiritual life. By this I don't mean organized religion, but rather just a deep connectedness with life. We are often so removed things, we have no grasp on ourselves. Remembering the dead is way to remember our own past, and share it with those around us. I haven't heard of anything like this, but my knowledge is pretty limited in this. BW "I'm coming with you! I got you fired, it's the least I can do. Well, the least I could do is absolutely nothing, but I'll go you one better and come along!" - Homer J. Simpson
