A party in the Dutch parliament [edit: well, their EU delegation, does such a detail really matter? they're the same political party..] has now demanded clarification of the threats the US is making to WikiLeaks, and asked the EU to protect Freedom of Expression. They also said that while countries have the right to defend state-secrets, "It is unclear whether these are state secrets and who leaked them". (they're also pushing for more transparency) When they say "it is unclear", what they really mean is "you are wrong, sucker" :)

You really should post this on the Grumpy Old Men forum. Are you a member, if not, do you qualify? This private forum has two rules: 1. You must have been an active member of Code Project for at least six months. That means that you have posted regularly or had at least one article published. 2. You cannot be an identified troll. Other than that, you can spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard, mate.

Other than that, you can spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard, mate. Always wondered if that was a common expression, or just one Chandler made up. Still don't know, of course, unless you/someone clarifies. :)

I had not come across it before. Not knowing of Chandler, I assumed it was an Aussie expression. I can find no convincing derivation on Google, so let's credit Chandler.

I've assumed it is/was common in Oz, but don't know. Having just reread all the Grimes stories recently, it was nice to see it in another context.
