Yes winamp 3 is bloated, you can start 10 instances of winamp2 before one of winamp 3 have started. VMP > 6.4 is also bloated. So is XP, and it's buggy as well. So i say (again) W2k, WMP 6.4 and winamp 2 is the way to go. What else do you need?...really?? :):) /M

I have even been laughed at for being "sad" when I told someone last year that I woke up early on the Remembrance Day Sunday just so I could keep my own two minutes of aknowledgement at 11 am. What's the point of a library if there are no computers ? Or do you mean to say you read non-technical books ? In fact I read hardly any technical books. One day I am going to build a house and in it will be the library room. Books from floor to ceiling, all around a big comfortable chair looking out through bay windows. Books rock. They don't give you kak. They don't crash, they don't need to boot up, they smell great and you can stuff them in a backpack without worrying. Of all the things I could miss, I would miss books the most.

Ok so I am now pissed off at MS. WMP 9 no longer comes with the AVI codes, so you cannot play AVIs. No notice, no warning, no "AVI support removed"! Bloody annoying. So I checked out http://www.ligos.com/indeo/ and found out I have to PAY to get the damned codec. What a crock! Pay? Who pays for things these days! Anyway... just wondering if anyone knows how to play AVIs on WMP9 without having to buy the codec, ta :)

AHEM to that! 6.4 is the only way to go. That's why I ramble so much. If you're short and quotable, there's a much greater danger of ending up in a sig.

Now, I might be wrong here, but Nimo Codec Pack should do the trick for you. It's free (w00t!). http://nimo.everwicked.com. And of course you have the free DivX codecs on divx.com. And you can use GSpot 2.0 to see what codecs you need for a movie. Cheers, Fredrik

Also I did install the DivX player and to my horror it also installed an app called GAIN which started popping up adverts... lovely indeed. Anyway, I installed the free codecs mentioned above for WMP9 and they work great :) Thanks though.

Give Media Player Classic[^] a try, its heavily based on WMP 6.4, but has a couple of extra features.
