No, you need a "hardcore chemical lobotomy" so you can wash away all of those years of LSD, shrooms, and Alex Jones brainwashing. Then maybe you'll BECOME an independent thinker, instead of endlessly parroting your favorite non-celebrity.

http://nestmann.sovereignsociety.com/2010/09/16/are-independent-thinkers-mentally-ill/[^] Do you question authority? Fail to accept conventional wisdom? Lose your temper when you hear a politician make a promise that you know he or she can’t keep? If so, you may be mentally ill, according to the most recent revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). In this revision, psychiatrists hope to add dozens of new mental disorders. Unfortunately, many of these so-called illnesses target people who merely think or behave differently from the majority population. It looks like I need a hardcore chemical lobotomy so I can be a good little lamb subservient to the government and its subsidiaries.

Are you left handed as well. ;) I was working in a retail shop years ago and a man was checking out and he commented on the lady that was writing up his order. "Left handed people are brain damaged, you know." He was paying with a business American Express card that said something about Brain Surgery on it. Needless to say the woman went ballistic on him. She was a redhead. Not sure about left handed people but redheads I'm sure about! :-\ You hair isn't red is it?

An article written by an idiot who has obviously never actually read the DSM (since he doesn't seem to actually understand the criteria for diagnosing a mental illness) or been involved in the care of a child with ODD or CD.

DSM defines ODD as “an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior toward authority figures.”

Try again. Quote the complete diagnostic criteria and for extra points you can highlight the key criteria that the author omitted when whining about how he qualifies for mental illness.

You have no evidence that I am on drugs. You are simply attempting to insult me instead of facing the fact that Independent Thinking is now considered a mental illness.

I have the video, dude. Do I need to post it?

Once you agree to clans, tribes, governments...you've opted for socialism. The rest is just details.

http://nestmann.sovereignsociety.com/2010/09/16/are-independent-thinkers-mentally-ill/[^] Do you question authority? Fail to accept conventional wisdom? Lose your temper when you hear a politician make a promise that you know he or she can’t keep? If so, you may be mentally ill, according to the most recent revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). In this revision, psychiatrists hope to add dozens of new mental disorders. Unfortunately, many of these so-called illnesses target people who merely think or behave differently from the majority population. It looks like I need a hardcore chemical lobotomy so I can be a good little lamb subservient to the government and its subsidiaries.

Ginaelisa said it well: The DSM is not published or influenced by the government. It’s published by the American Psychological Association; an organization so reputable that it’s standards for publication are taught in colleges across the nations. I am a volunteer at an elementary school and ODD isn’t about not wanting to lie down at nap time. Violation of social norms refers to refusing to refrain from violence, severe bullying, and situations similar. These are the children who can not function in our world and (as misguided as our customs are) face a lifetime of self imposed-isolation. These are the kids who could have been misdiagnosed with autism. The revision of the DSM is just that: a Revision. The psychological researchers who participate in the publication do not invent new disorders. They review parameters and redefine for more accurate diagnosis. As far as medication goes, children are NEVER medicated without the consent of their parents and the decision to continue or discontinue medication lies in the hands of licensed medical professionals, not the government. Not to mention, medication usually goes hand in hand with cognitive or behavioral therapy. The accusation that Mozart would have been diagnosed with ADD is absolutely ridiculous. His ability to compose actually shows a brilliant capacity to focus. Your argument has some very basic flaws, mainly lack of knowledge. Look into the history of the DSM, the APA, and review the new diagnoses and you’ll see that no one is trying to medicate you into following social norms.

I agree that mental illnesses such as ADHD can be very much overdiagnosed, but that's more the parents' faults than the doctors. Apparently they get angry when they're told that they're useless parents who are utterly incapable of controlling their spoilt bastard children.
