This is a follow-up to the "Bash the English language thread" a couple of messages below. This has been bugging me for quite a while. I recently started learning Spanish as a fourth language (first and native being Hebrew, second of course being English, third is the bit of Arabic I still remember from school), and one thing almost drove me nuts: You can have a whole conversation using only words containing the "esta" root and variations. Por ejemplo: Esta estampa esta en el este establo. (Translated: This figure is in this stable) Try pronouncing it and you'll see what I mean. Now try understanding someone Spanish speaking this sentence is 10-words per second rate! Isaac Sasson, Small time programmer - complainer at large! Sonork ID 100.13704

Your translation is differnt to mine ? I Got, "This stamp" "This in the east stable" Yeah It doesn't make sense, So I'd change it to ... Esta estampa está en el este establo. and get "this stamp is in the east stable" I would have used "Esta estampa está en esta cuadra." Unsure why since I have never had a lesson in spanish :-) Also I'm surpised to find figurine is estampa. ? The sound I always find hard is the nn or nh type sound, it feels like I have softdrink up my nose when I make it. :-) Have you tried any English toungue twisters ? like "She sell shell at the sea shore" ? You are the intrepid one, always willing to leap into the fray! A serious character flaw, I might add, but entertaining. Said by Roger Wright about me.

Actually stamp is "estampilla" in spanish. And my sentence did lack the accent since I was too lazy to look it up. It should have been: Esta estampa está en estט establo. Isaac Sasson, Small time programmer - complainer at large! Sonork ID 100.13704

Muy interesante. Anyhow if you ever want some fun with your teacher, ask them to pronounce "Parangaricutirimicuaro" :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

According to Mexian (2nd-class) bus drivers, this is pronounced identically to "Paraparaparaaaaaaa!!!!!!!"
