I recall when I did my Biology O level (the old name for GCSE) it was quite a bit more indepth than this so called exam: http://store.aqa.org.uk/qual/gcse/qp-ms/AQA-BLY1BP-W-QP-MAR10.PDF[^] Apart from being ridden through with BS GW references (yesh, evene a picture of a Bristlecone pine, the tree which when heavilly weighted as a proxy gave rise to Manns Hoickey Stick graph (will these people stop at nothing in forcing propaganda down our shildrens throats?), its such opinionated, un-scientific politicised crap. Question two, which is about removing trees for farming, states that without trees, CO2 cant be removed fomr the atmosphere and thus causes GW. Quesiotn 8 B later on states "The Lua tribe has no effect on CO2 (whsn they slash and burn) besause the crops they plant absorb the CO2 released by burning" What, so its OK if your skin is black, and you live in a tribe to clear forsts for crops but not if you are white and do it with a truck? :) What utter cock!

Yeah, exactly. There is some complex stuff in that exam. The UK has dumbed down education to the point of near uselessness. Its all part of egalitarianism, where everyone can have a degree!

It has been going on in the UK for decades. They claim the exams are more about "how and why" rather than "what" type questions, but that is pure, unadulterated bullshit. I took my a-levels in the early '90s. As part of our revision, we worked through our school's past papers catalogue. In chemistry I got [what was then] considered a really high mark, so I'm no dolt, but I found one thing: I could do all the late 80s papers with ease, going back to the mid 80s there were a few questions I couldn't do/ found hard, by the time I got back to the early 80s I couldn't do most of the questions. What made ths worse was I took (and passed) the Oxford entrance papers, as well as 'S'-level (both roughly level with a first year degree exam) so I'd studied beyond the standard A-Levels. After not doing too well in my Chemistry degree (read crap), I went back to school to teach (coz that is wot U didif you got below a Desmond), in the intervening three years they'd cut out about 1/5 - 1/6 of the A-Level syllabus AFAICT. This trend is one of the many reasons why the UK is up a well-known creek without the requisite equipment.

I did my A levels in '82. O-levels three years earlier (I took my Os a years earllier than I should have and spent more time doing A levels and an Engineering course (OND in fact)). O-levels were OxBridge. When I compare those to what is taught today it is clear that they are probably the equivalent today of an A-level, and god knows what an Alevel rep-resents! (Suffice to say they were damn difficult!). I saw my nephews GCSE eaxm last year, I couldnt stop myself laughing at its utter banality.
