Having just replaced IIS on my W2K server I've been having great fun doing stuff that never worked before. I thought everything was finally under control, until I got up this morning and found ZAP asking if I want to give FTP permission to access the Internet. Of course I answered yes, being only half awake. But it got me wondering why FTP was trying to do anything on its own, so I did a little research. According to the logs, at 3AM this morning FTP tried to access a site at 209.184.246.198. Trying this manually I discovered that I can't get in - Access Denied. But on a lark I tried http: on the same address. That led to an ancient Microsoft site that was current in 1996! The site was full of helpful information and samples of HTML and ODBC data access code, but no mention of ADO, ASP, or scripting. How old does that make it? A further search determined that the site is located in the middle of Kansas! What are the odds that Microsoft has a server there? Since it's completely lacking the Microsoft look and feel, I'm guessing that it's really a user host running BackOffice on an older WinNT machine, and this is the typical new user information for the default website on the host. What's got me curious is the fact that something on my machine is trying to contact it in the wee hours of the morning. My guess is that it's one of the several helpful chat agents I have running trying to check for updates or something, but so far it seems harmless. Maybe I should block the IP and see what service whines about it! I swear this thing is haunted...:-D "When in danger, fear, or doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!" - Lorelei and Lapis Lazuli Long

How old does that make it? After nosing around, I found a link that refers to IIS, version 3.0 Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.
