In-browser access to a fingerprint scanner
-
Has anyone tried to code a SilverLight app to access a locally connected Fingerprint scanner device while staying INSIDE the browser? I know we know have access to things like USB video and audio, but I am not sure about Fingerprint scanners. Just curious if anyone has tried it yet...

Not really - knowing the security sandbox Silverlight runs in - I would feel this would not be possible.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it. My latest tip/trick Visit the Hindi forum here.

No you can't. If the manufacturer provided a COM API, you could accomplish this through the COM OOB experience.

I figured... You know, I had really expected this to be allowed in SOME manner since this provides a pretty reliable way to authenticate. I would have almost expected that a BIO API device would be allowed. Geeez, they allow you access to the camera and headset while remaining in-browser now, why not a security device :)

The theory is that by this stage you will already have been authenticated.
