http://www.thinkprogress.org/[^] Down a ways to: The U.S. has offered 20 F-35 fighter planes and various security guarantees to the Israeli government in return for a 90-day extension of its settlement freeze in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently presenting the proposal to his cabinet. Source of statement is in the article itself. Isn't that called extortion?

That is so fucking disgusting... Bibi holds out and causes problems for us, and we reward him. They should have cut off all aid to the assholes instead. They'd have knuckled under in a hurry. But our fearless leader is too afraid of his own shadow to negotiate forcefully with anyone, on any subject. Change you can believe in... and long as it means business as usual. X|

In terms of selling the F35, i'd call it marketing.

Not if the underlying condition was that give us something or else we'll let it lapse. That is the legal definition of extortion. Iran does it, North Korea does it, and so do we I bet. If it's not extortion, we're buying Israeli policy then. Either way it's stupid and not for the benefit of America's National interest.

Neither of us know what was said or what the deal was so bit hard to comment.

Nope, it's extortion when a person does it.

That's probably a better word for it.

So when will the planes be ready, if Isreal accept? That program is so delayed it is steadily approaching a scandal. And the only noticeable high speed descent is the cost.
