Prince Charles and Camilla get attacked by mob of students:

Only with drunk French drivers...

I think so too. Its a good thing to see this kind of sentiment being displayed. God knows these inbred Germans have leeched of us long enough, its good they know that their safe, cosy, isolated bubble can be burst. Shake em up a bit, bring em back down to earth.

Technically if you're, you know, in France so to speak. They are leeching off us and not you at all. While I dont condone attacks on dodery useless old farts, whoever thought it would be a good idea to drive a posh car ( roller? ) through a protest about cuts that are ideological motivated to punish the poor for the mistakes of the rich, should be having his nuts nailed to the wall as we speak.

Strange, change 'inbred Germans' to 'shiftless students', and the sentence works just as well. "The Question, Punk, Is[^]: Do you think your course is worth £9000 p.a.? No: There isn't a problem; do something else. Yes: There isn't a problem; grow up, invest in your future." A sentiment with which I concur. There are too many universities that should be Polytechnics or Colleges of Further Education, which offered vocational qualifications to the bright and adept, at a much lower cost. University is for the academic elite. Accountancy, Nursing, Teaching, et al, are not degree subjects.

I started my first degree in 1989. I have admittedly paid to do two masters degrees since then. But I can say that for the best part of the last 20 years I have paid a minimum of £700 in tax and national insurance a month. If, however, I had not done the first degree I would have considered myself lucky to earn what is now the minimum wage. Without that first degree I would have considered myself to be doing well to earn £700 a month. The whole argument that students don't pay the money for their degrees is nonsense.

Wether you like it or not the country needs academics just as it needs plumbers and nurses, it's how society works. Biology, Physics, Computers and electronics are all academic subjects. From I personal point of view I went out with trainee nurse during her last year in the 90's the work they have to do is easily equivalent to a degree subject. Also in the UK, the teaching of nursing is now largely academic with less time spent on the wards.

Yes, it is acceptable because they put themselves in public life. THe public, in ALL its forms, therefore has the right to respond. Almost everything in life is a double edged sword. They just discovered the nasty side of parading themselves around in that ridiculous car of theirs.

The royal family should just get the fuck out of public life and start living normally. And dump that stupid car.

I love the fact Australia has a royal family. Gives us a sense of history and some pomp and ceremony we could never otherwise have. Also means there is someone to sack our government when required.

Would you have taken that course had you to pay, say, £4,500 p.a.?

Good heavens! Where did you live? Blaenau Ffestiniog? But it is not just about potential earnings, to some attaining a degree in, say, the History of Art (not known for its wealth enhancing prospects), is well worth saddling themselves with the debt.

That is someone else's argument.
pseudonym67 wrote:

Did I say it didn't? What it does not need is a degree course for every subject under the sun.
pseudonym67 wrote:

Computing and Electronics may be studied with either an academic or practical bias. The academic at a University, the practical at a Polytechnic. It seems to me that every subject taught is becoming more and more academic. Even a City and Guilds in Needlework (I am told :) ) requires a body of written course work.

Which degree subject? Electronic Engineering? Astrophysics? Women's Studies? All degrees are equal, but some ...
