How long does it take a reported article to get attended?

I reported an article for having incorrect information at couple of places a week back and no action has been taken yet. :doh: Here is the article: ViewState and Postback[^] The correction required are: http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/3610436/Correction-in-the-article.aspx[^] and http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/3352532/Excellent-article-but-3-mistakes-just-in-case-some.aspx[^].

Posting comments on an article's forum is not the same as reporting an article (the latter done by clicking on the red flag at the top of the article). In fact, answering posts made on an article's forum is solely done at the author's discretion. If he doesn't want to answer, there's no rule that says he has to. Similarly, there's no rule that says the author has to update his article, even when problems are reported. Finally, if you notice that the last post the author made (in 2008) was the same year the article was published, then the reasonable conclusion is that the author won't be answering posts anymore. In any case, unless the article has violated one of the site no-no's, the CP editors aren't responsible for its contents, and won't take action. You, on the other hand, may request the CP editors to declare the article as "abandoned", take ownership yourself, and fix the mistakes, and post the update. Or you can just make the changes and post the update as a new article, referring to the old article. To sum up, what you are complaining about is neither a site bug nor a suggestion that will be acted upon (the CP editors cannot force anyone to update their article). Therefore, your post in this forum is itself inappropriate. Please remove this post. If you want to follow up, take action as I noted above.

I do realise that the last message by the author was made in 2008. I also understand that changes will be made by an author on his discretion and that's why I reported the article.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. CP is a community, not just a place to post articles. It's important to understand what the CP editors can do for us, and what we must do ourselves. Only in very rare situations will the CP editors substantially modify the contents of an article. This is normal and expected; how can we expect them to understand every topic in sufficient detail to evaluate what you're saying? Reporting an article has nothing to do with technical mistakes. In fact, if you hover over the red flag, you will see the tip "Report this article as inappropriate". That's not the case here, and it's no wonder why the CP editors didn't act on your report. "Inappropriate" in the context of an article means that it's total crap; that it's been plagiarized; or that it is offensive in some way. If the article is none of these, then you shouldn't click the report button. Thanks for understanding. I leave it to you to take what action you think is best.

Take a look at the author's profile. Last message posted November 2009, he/she has probably not been here for a long time and may never return.
I must get a clever new signature for 2011.

That's a very valid point but I feel the issues with the content there was explained very well with MSDN links to the correct information.

I am sorry but I don't agree with that. If there is an incorrect information in an article, that must be first reported to the author and if he/she doesn't correct it I feel it shoud be reported to the editor with comprehensive details and references. I also must tell you that I have already asked couple of mentors (whom I know personally) to modify it but they do not have the sufficient rights to do it.

I would suggest that's a good reason to ignore the article. If every article that needs some suggested changes gets reported to the editors they will have to employ a lot more of them. Post a question or suggestion in the article's forum, if the author does not respond then forget about it, it probably will not happen.
