Here is a new idea for electing a democratic government. This system would let the people decide what type of people they want to rule the country. It will work like this: The People will create an exam (with the help of an independent organization) that candidates will sit for. The result of the exam will dictate their vote count. A great idea with one problem - people from different walks of life wouldn't agree on the correct answer.

Thats happens in todays election system anyway. A party promises the world in order to get votes and then does not live up to that promise. With an exam system as I proposed it will be possible to detect that a politician is not living up to what he promised and will be punished accordingly (either indirectly by losing credibility or directly through fines/legisltion or by losing the marks he gained by lying) Drinking In The Sun Forgot Password?

That would be a very simple test to write: Q1. Do you want to rule the country?

            1. Yes
            2. No

Throw out anyone who answers a.

While I don't agree 100% with a simple test. It might be a lot better than what we currently have. What really irritates me, is that most people think our current systems are the best possible. Regardz Colin J Davies

While I agree that this would effectively filter out some of the half assed half literate candidates, you cannot guarantee a totally fair and unbiased and uncompromised system. With the stakes at hand, it won't be difficult for the independent organisation to get interested in the outcome and the way the game is played. :( But it can atleast be used to determine who is eligible for contesting and who is not.

I kind of liked Arthur C. Clarke's idea of the ideal government from "The Songs of Distant Earth". Basically, you throw everyone person's name, who is over a certain age and is mentally competent and with no criminal record, into a hat and draw. Its not an election, but a lottery.
