Yeah - I'm sure the gals here would love to have a flag attached to their profile saying 'Please send me a hundred unsolicited messages simply becuase I'm one of the 2.5% of the CodeProject population that's female'. It's a woman's perogative to remain mysterious. cheers, Chris Maunder

Christian Graus wrote: Yes, I believe so. Is that a hammer in your hand ? Nah, bare hands are far more effective... Christian Graus wrote: Do you think that being female has hindered your pursuit of a programming career ? I'd hope not in this day and age, yet from time to time people post and express surprise that there would be females here, so I suppose this sort of sexism still exists ? Well, yes it does, and it's not surprising, is it? It's culturally engrained: it's not so long ago that women got the vote, in relative terms. I tend to react against being pigeon-holed by gender rather than ability, apart from for obvious biological differences ;) In one job (not this one!) I got asked to do the department head's typing as his secretary was ill, and I was the nearest woman. Hmmm...he walked with a limp for a week afterwards . Inevitably in an organisation where people with those attitudes are making decisions then you are going to be affected. Generally, however, my experience is that people (apart from the pillock with the limp) have not been sexist in terms of judging my abilities differently from a man. Debbie
Debs wrote: Well, yes it does, and it's not surprising, is it? I think it is. I'd imagine a woman having trouble getting work as a plumber, because, well, plumbers are stupid. Surely by the time people are smart enough to program a computer, they are smart enough not to judge people by if they need to sit to pee ? Debs wrote: I tend to react against being pigeon-holed by gender rather than ability, apart from for obvious biological differences Damn straight - I would too. Debs wrote: In one job (not this one!) SPS wrote: Not interested in gals doesnt mean that one is a gay. Not interested in girls is also different from 'how many girls are here, could they get different icons so I can tell who they are ?' SPS wrote: So, if I talk to a guy... am I a gay??? I'm sorry, they must not have sarcasm and irony where you live. My point was not that you are gay, it's that the only reason to ask the sort of questions being asked is to try and find/meet/talk to girls. The original 'not interested in girls' statement is clearly made false by the comments that follow. I always regard I am interviewing the employer as much as vice versa. I've never stood up and said 'you fail the interview' though. I just ask for more money than is remotely reasonable.
