Don't you just hate it when (Part 2)

Damn, I'm annoyed today and its not even 10am ;-) I'm trying to find out if Wise installer support MSI merge modules for Crystal Reports 9. However before I can get to any useful information, I have to register. Now I don't mind giving an email address and the like but why should I have to give a postal address, telephone number and all the rest of the crap it asks for. It's almost like they don't want my business - when will these tin pot little companies learn. Oh and their web-site sucks too. Michael Fat bottomed girls You make the rockin' world go round -- Queen

After using Crystal reports while developing our site we eventually decided to scrap them and switch to printable HTML / ASP pages for statements instead. They wanted us to have a license for every potential user who could be online requesting their commission statement or whatever. In reality I doubt there will ever be more than 5 at one time, so why pay for hundreds of licenses? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice tool, but with a little effort there can be long term rewards in not using it. :) As for what you said below - we are having the exact same problem. After 8 months of dev, IFA's start trading through our site this week. The first 3 firms have started already. Suddenly client services wants to give us documents and documents and documents of stuff we've been asking for for months. Keep in mind you are only human, and can only do so much. There is no point getting stressed to the point of making yourself ill. (ie. take some time out at CP every now and then :-D). Oh - and one good thing about being pushed - the week flies by and soon it's weekend :jig:

It's just getting it installed onto client machines which is causing me my headaches. I hate working for corporates, where all the machines and users are locked down :-( One day, I'm going to write my own reporting tool because Crystal makes my life more complicated than it needs to be. Before I moved to my current job in 1998 I had an interview with a company in Camberley who were using Crystal and getting seriously annoyed with its limitations. Last year we had a new developer join and it turns out he worked for them later on...and guess what? They dumped it. Sometimes I'm glad I don't do web dev (a bit of XML/XSLT aside lol). OOh in case you were wondering, I switched back to my main CP account today. All my articles are now in my real name. :-D Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

Instead, I seem to have written a new reporting library for each new client... I call each one YARC (Yet Another Reporting Component). J
