I've become unhappy with the reliablity of my current shell provider, and am looking to switch. To keep the billing hassle down as much as possible I'd like to go with a single company for both services; but finding one is difficult since most inexpensive shell providers don't appear to've upgraded their web hosting servers for several years with the result that they have pitifully small storage limits. I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy. On the shell side just some sort of linux/bsd I can run a bnc process on (not an IRCd) with a vanity host. Currently I'm running psybnc; and would like to give ZNC a try because it can play back messages sent while I was disconnected but with my limited *nix skills probably won't take the effort unless there's an easy script provided to do the initial source download and compile steps for me. My web hosting use could be best described as an http file dump that I mostly use to share high quality pictures and other random stuff with friends. I don't have anything resembling a CMS (making it run sounds like work) or any serverside scripting/databases in use; all I really want/need is a few GB of storage on my domain that I can use to toss people URLs to. I really don't care what's running on the backend; but lamp hosting more or less wins by default from a cost perspective. I know it's a bit off the beaten trail for the average CP user; but if anyone here has any useful suggestions I'd appreciate them.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt
