Basal (Resting) Metabolic Rate
-
This is a long-awaited post for CG, Megan, and the like. Here's an online calculator for determining a person's Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR (same thing as resting metabolic rate). It's a nice number to know for weight watching. Basal Metabolism Calculator[^] Best wishes, Jeremy Falcon Imputek Excrement escapes everyone - even elders.

It needs to take into account stuff like muscle to fat ratios to be relevant for me personally. If a factor was added in, as to how high you can jump onto a box it might make more sense for me, but aerobic activity doen't count for size very well. Regardz Colin J Davies

Very cool, thanks! Just one thing though - has all my talk of chocolate lead to this....

This is nice! Maybe I'll start counting calories from now on. :) Although, Colin has a point - it does not take muscle/fat ratio into account nor does it take VO2 and resting pulse into account. I know I've transformed a lot of fat into muscles the past year. I can also maintain physical activity with a heart rate at 170 for about 30-35 minutes, 180 for 10-15 minutes, which I certainly couldn't do a year ago. My resting pulse varies between 50 and 55. Do you know any formulaes which take these factors into account? -- Only in a world this shitty could you even try to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face.

Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Although, Colin has a point Yes !! Here is a list of calculators http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/ultramentor/math.html[^] sorry but the link has a popup. I'm guessing that putting all the variables into a single calculator would be impossible. Like for instance "Age", there is good evidence that some people age faster than others. So you can only aproximate this. As a suggestion if you realy want to analyse yourself take daily records and store them in Excel and then see what trends you can pick up. IMHO: Each individual is so different that calculators will never be very accurate, and when something like a cold is encountered by your body, all the calculations go out the window. Doesn't [being healthy] pretty much just come down to. Exercise as much as possible. Eat a good variety of fruits, vegetables, grain, fish and meat. Eat less saturated fat and refined sugars. Eat when you're hungry, but don't eat more than it takes to make you full and satisfied. Drink water. I agree with you 110%. I was just looking for a down and dirty calculation to fulfill an old promise I made a long time ago, in a place far, far away to a few select CPians. :) Colin Davies wrote: It needs to take into account stuff like muscle to fat ratios to be relevant for me personally. True, but if I remember Colin, you lift (or have lifted) weights. I was looking for the average Joe type of thing.* * Not really, it's the first one I found. :) Jeremy Falcon Imputek Excrement escapes everyone - even elders.

What a crap! First it looks good by using names like "Basal Metabolic Rate", and "Active Metabolic Rate", but then it tells me to move my ass to loose weight.
