f.lux - Better lighting for your computer [eye strain saver!]
-
http://stereopsis.com/flux/[^] f.lux makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again. Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

Great tool chris, put it in my two computers and I love it. It is strange at the beginning, but once you get used to it...

Really groovy. I wish computers came with IR sensors so this tool could work better! Thanks for sharing.

f.lux is a wonderful tool, unfortunately I have found it incompatible with my nVidia graphics card, a GE Force 7100 GS, in Win 7 Pro 64: specifically, I cannot adjust contrast or brightness in the nVidia TaskBar application without over-riding f.lux settings, and within f.lux, you have a very limited range of adjusting contrast or brightness. This may be more problematic for me because I am using a large 32 inch, LCD tv/monitor (not full 1080p, native resolution 1366x768), driven by HDMI ? I have to continually adjust the contrast and brightness settings depending on the application I am running, whether I am watching on-line video, watching a DVD movie, etc. You can be sure that I have varied every aspect of the monitor's internal setting possible before concluding there was no "happy medium" where its high luminance could be "toned down," without sacrificing readability. I would assume f.lux does not work with other similar lower-end nVidia cards, but I am not sure. I cannot remember if I sent an e-mail to f.lux about this, or not. Since it has been over six weeks since I last tried f.lux, and nVidia's driver has been updated, I should re-test. Hope f.lux works for you: its interface is so nicely designed ! best, Bill
