The conservative stance is not that condoms do not help prevent disease but when the school readily marketed them the promiscuity (and disease) rapidly escalated, as it is now ok to do so. Those who wish to attack the religious (conservative) viewpoint have only found a few to quote to distort what the position really is and to make the conservative side look stupid. The number one item that will make me totally disrespect someone is when they can only use the above tactic (misrepresentation) to sell their position. Or if you can only justify your opinion by totally misrepresenting what the other sides opinion is, then you likely have nothing that is actually worth justifying in the first place. If you can justify your opinion while looking for the best the other side has to offer, than you can actually stand by it and IMO are worth while if I agree or not. "I will find a new sig someday."

Do you seriously believe that students only start having sex when teachers at school talk about it? I'm pushing 20 years since I was in middle high school and I know my interest in sex was on the boil well before any talk of it at school. When they did start it didn't change my thoughts or attitude or my luck. But I did get some before school finished and I still say that would have happened sex ed or not. It all seems to be a storm in a teacup. If parents haven't educated their kids on what sex is all about and don't trust them when their old enough to physically get into it then it's too damn late. Not talking about condoms isn't going to fix anything. Agreed My point was the article was manipulating what the issue was by making one side look stupid and not presenting what the feelings of the conservative side was. IMO they discredited themselves and their cause by showing how little they understood. You do not make progress towards a common solution by calling the other person stupid. Especially when they know you have ignored what they have been saying. Now I am 35 years out. My guesstimate is the promiscuity for your group was up say 5 to 10 percent from mine. But many things changed, mostly mobility of the children. So what caused it, for this discussion I do not care. "I will find a new sig someday."

It's getting late, I'm tired and at home on a shitty dial-up connection so I am going from memory here (which if history has proven anything is a bad idea on my part) as I'm not going to click on the link and reread the article. Didn't the conservative (or whoever it was) start the misrepresentation when they started their anti-condom campaign by comparing the size of the AIDS virus to the pores on condoms? Still seems to me someone somewhere needs to get themselves a bit of a root to remember that it is not all bad (and no I didn't mean you). My point for anyside is this article continues it. I would complain no matter which side this was. "I will find a new sig someday."
