Thousands of U.S. colleges and universities must soon begin supplying information about their foreign students to a new, online INS tracking system. "There's a lot of information that's going to be collected, and we don't know how it's going to be used," said Zuberi, who is pursuing a doctorate in chemistry. "People are literally afraid that if they don't pay a $5 library fine, they could be deported." :~ CNN[^] Kant Sonork-100.28114 Don't  and Drive.

How is this a problem? It just seems that the new system is replacing an existing paper base system. Having traveled and worked abroad I know that I did everything I could to make sure that I was in compliance with the countrys imigration laws and my visa was always correct. Why shouldn't foreign students and workers here in the US be held to same standards that we would be held to when overseas? Seems like a silly knee-jerk reaction to me. Fill me with your knowledge, your wisdom, your coffee.

Why is it that everyone thinks they should be able to come to the US and just disappear? Mike Mullikin

I think the issue is that it's treating every foreigner as if they plan on abusing the system as much as possible (i.e. guilty until proven innocent) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!
