Australia has now been added to the Axis of Evil! "Since they ain't for us. They must be against us! There can be no other way except the way it is!" shouted President Bush upon hearing the news. Sanctions have been enacted. No more dumb movies with clever kangaroos will be made until Australia apologizes for its actions and lifts its own sanctions on the Simpson family. -c

I saw the shorts for that bizzare-o talking kangaroo film last December. Needless to say, when I got back home no one in Oz had ever heard mention of the movie. Cringe factor 5. cheers, Chris Maunder

As said Talleyrand, "High treason is a question of the date" I like particulary these ones: "in December 1989, George Bush's father authorised new loans to Saddam in order to achieve the "goal of increasing US exports and put us in a better position to deal with Iraq regarding its human rights record ". Surprisingly, the goal was never reached. In February 1989, eleven months after Halabja, John Kelly, US Assistant Secretary of State, flew to Baghdad to tell Saddam Hussein that "you are a source for moderation in the region, and the United States wants to broaden her relationship with Iraq". "According to the report, this assistance included "chemical warfare-agent precursors; chemical warfare-agent production facility plans and technical drawings; chemical warfare-filling equipment; biological warfare-related materials; missile fabrication equipment and missile system guidance equipment". These technologies were sent to Iraq until December 1989, 20 months after Halabja." I know understand why the US know Saddam has WMD: they give them to him. X|

According to a Cable News Network (CNN)" Business News" Report by Steve Young on 20 February 1990: ..Saddam Hussein bought more than 70 percent of his chemical warfare arsenal or the makings from the so-called G-7 nations (major European industrial nations) Japan, France, United States, Italy, Britain and Germany; only Canada apparently sold nothing; experts say that's because Canada had no chemical weapons to sell. A report commissioned by the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles details how Germany sold more poison gases (and) chemicals to make them and testing facilities than any other country in the world.

so, yes. the US sold WMD stuff to Iraq, and so did half of Europe. still doesn't mean we have to start a war now. -c

Our best hope is for Saddam to invade Poland as Northern Europe is the place all our equipment is designed for. In the desert, our boots melt, the helicopter blade lifespan is reduced to seven hours, the tank airfilters malfunction and our guns need cleaning between shots. Not to mention our communication system doesn't work. In the Balkan conflict our troops were reduced to using their own mobile phones to communicate. Unless Saddam has built a large system of mobile phone towers as well as his weapons of mass destruction, we won't be able to talk between tanks. As in all things there generally has to be a vested interest before any action is taken. As long as it is "not in my back yard", or affect my people, or you have something I want, et. al. Fortunately there are some people out there that want to help the oppressed and hungry, but they are not in power!

The Clansman radios the UK Army has are totally and utterly crap. A GSM phone is way more reliable and secure! As an aside, while I was at Racal Instruments I got hauled into the refit programme for the Clansman Base ATE (circa 1977) in 1994, and what we found when we started digging was appalling. It's a miracle the system ever worked. X| The stupid thing is that the replacements (Bowman) have been "close" to being ready for years...the Racal Comms unit (the Panther V) that the mobile radios were based on has been available since the mid 90's (another contract I got dragged into!). I shudder to think when the kit from the last job I worked on there (a mobile ATE system to support the RAF EH101 helicopter) will be deployed! Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk
