Point for answering question
-
Hi, No reputation points are being added for answering a question. I have observed for few members the reputation increasing without their answer being upvoted/or accepted, so not sure if bug creating problem for all users or only for some users. Before any esteemed member tells me that the points are immaterial and why do I care for it, let me tell that I DO NOT care points while answering a question but I think all CP owes its members some clarification in this regard.
Thanks, Milind
Don't mind Richard... he's grumpy on the occasion (as we all are I guess). Yeah, this hasn't been working correctly for a bit.

What do you mean on the occasion? I'll have you know I'm always grumpy. I am getting bored with seeing all these questions about points, both here and in the lounge. That is really not what CodeProject is about.
One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Correction... Always grumpy. :) ...yeah, a lot of people ask but you also don't have to answer...although at this point I'm sure Chris shares your feelings.

In the same way that you don't.

I was friendly, I wanted to answer

Richard, I have read at many a times before and read it again just now. Sorry to say but this doesn't tell about authority points not getting added for answering a question. I am no big fan of points and my personal opinion is there shouldn't be any point given for answering a question. Point should be given only for upvote/acceptance. Its about clarity. Why there is no clarity given is my question. And again no intention of hurting or boring anyone. And with that I will rest my point.
Thanks, Milind

Hi Milind_T, I understand your concern expressed here; I am sure many CP member share the same concern. But, I suggest you consider the "big picture" here: there is a technical problem, it involves some complex issues of server migration of vasts amount of data; Chris has clearly identified the nature of the problem in the pinned post at the top of this forum, and, he has reassured us all that all original data is intact. Why not assume, as I believe most of us do, that the entire CP staff is working night and day to solve the problems, and that Chris is probably in the midst of a "heroic" struggle, working with ferocious intensity, to (American slang) "take care of business." Think of all the good things CodeProject has given you: the information; answers to your technical questions; access to brilliant articles from master programmers; perhaps, even emotional support. Wit, laughter, and companionship, in the Lounge, on almost any level you can imagine. All for free ! Surely, this is a time for patience among us: we, the lucky nine-million plus ? regards, Bill ~ "access to everything ever written or recorded, know everything the user ever worked on and saved to his or her personal hard drive, and know a whole lot about the user's tastes, friends and predilections." CP owes us nothing. It's a free of charge service and no one forces us to use it. The fact that you are posting this shows you DO care about the points; if you did't, you wouldn't be checking your reputation to see if the points were added or not.

Thanks for confirming Chris. And sorry to cause pain to some by this question :-( I was thinking if it would be good idea not to give point for answering. At times I have seen it instigates new member to answer for sake of answering with just some one-liner and/or a link. If only acceptance or upvoting earns points then it refrains such users from putting silly answers. There are many sites which practice this.
Thanks, Milind
