You're really having fun with this scripting stuff, aren't you David? Love the limericks... It loads a bit faster, though the old one was fairly swift here. I like the differentiation between the Soapbox and the rest of the forums - nice touch! Nobody wants to read a diary by someone who has not seen the shadow of Bubba on the prison shower wall in front of them!

I'm particularly proud of this - so far the only time I ever do any work on my sig is when I am either totally pissed out of my head or so tired I cannot spell my name correctly after three attempts, and every time it works (touch wood)! Now I've moved davidwulff.co.uk away from FNN I can use ASP and have some fun. :-D Now I can start harvesting cool quotes from people without having to worry about remvoing old ones. I can have up to four pieces of data about each one: the text, the author, a link and whether it is PG13 suitable or not. Roger Wright wrote: Love the limericks... I'm particularly fond of... The sig will always load faster if it's been shown once before, and as the vast majority of my messages use the h.a.s = 0.0.4 rating it should be near instant in most cases. Hopefully there won't be any more of those browser lockups that suddenly started happening shortly before I pulled it. I think it was the scripting that was causing that, but that's all gone now. In the interest of public sanity and my own value for my life I have hosted the sig off-site. You can see it in a fake message using the links below. It should be much faster to download than before (it's about a third of the size), and it no longer has any client-side scripting to pause your browser from time to time. It also displays a random quote from my collection, and (and I like this bit) it ientifies if it is loading from the SoapBox and if so displays a non PG13 quote (nothing too strong though - just light humour). There are a couple of other changes too, like a quick e-mail form and what not. Here are the links: Normal message sig[^] SoapBox message sig[^] So long as it doesn't break for anyone and it runs fast enough (I finally moved my domain away from FreeNetName onto a decent host) then I'll stick it back in my signature slot in a little while. As the domain was only registered about 20 hours ago it may not have filtered through to your end of the world yet, so if you get a "server not found" message bear with me.

You mustn't tell anyone I've done this 'cause I expect it is in direct violation of my agreement with FNN... You have a certificate of domain ownership form Nominet, right? Well just send it back to Nominet with the cancellation form filled in (that was on the reverse of my certificate). Nominet will send you a ltter about a fortnight later reminidng you that your web site is still active, and that resigning the domain will cause it to "die", which you must sign and return. Then wait about a month or so and you'll find your domain suddenly disapears off the face of the earth, ready to be registered again through your prefered agency. I seriously doubt FreeNetName even know the domain is no longer theres, so they will continue paying for my account to remain active and probably even pay to have the domain renewed when it's original 4 years was up. boo hoo to them I say - serves them right for conning their clients in the first place. FNN ask for £90 - when you go directly through Nominet it doesn't cost you a penny! :-D

Ok, well no one ahs reported any browser lock ups with this version, and the twenty four hours it supposedly takes for the domain to filter through the net has gone and passed twelve hours ago, so I'm slotting it back in my sig again. If anyone notices *any* problems that are affecting the forums let me know ASAP before the lynch mob forms.

lol  Anything that gets up the nose of FreeNetName is fine by me...their service is awful. I received a letter from them in November informing me that as I hadn't logged onto my dial-up account in the last 30 days they were going to deactivate it (and my domain) in about 10 days time...shades of Hotmail I guess. What was even more incredible was that they wanted £47 to reactivate it! I never bothered replying, and just moved the whole site instead. I'm glad to be free of them, but if I'd known this trick I'd certainly have used it. Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk
