I have never understood the stock market, so this comes purely from a rather simplistic point of view... Surely now is a really good time to start buying up loads of stock in all sorts of companies that will then skyrocket after Bush has finishsed his little terrorism campaign? I'm going on what they showed on the news where when Georgies father and friends last went into the Gulf everything dropped down and then afterwards it shot up again. Is that really how it works? :~

Wait a little longer - they should go down more before they go up

They carefully reset the machines to the lowest settings, offer to spot for each other on the 5 lb dumbells, and rediscover the art of macrame while attempting to jump rope. -Roger Wright on my colleagues and I going to gym each day at lunch

I called my financial advisor yesterday and had all my funds transferred to a money market account until this war sh*t is over. I figure it'll continue to go mostly down with a few ups like today, but there'll be panic come Feb 14th. Sucks, doesn't it. Marc Help! Bush is a moron, but I'd rather have him in office than the uncharismatic Al Gore. I'm from the US and I don't like this war crap anymore than anybody else, though not because of the stock market. There are rumors that they are going to bring back the selective service draft. I'll not elaborate on my feelings about this, but I don't like it one bit. Brad Jennings "if the golden arches shut shop, where else are the VB people going to get work." - Colin Davies

That is being proposed by the democratic congressman from Harlem (NYC) -Rangle. He seems to think that if congressmen and senators children were liable to be drafted, there would be less support for the war. Unfortunately past history suggests he is full of it. When there was a draft, the priveleged frequently avoided it or used political influence to get "safe" postings. Nothing would be different if it returned. There is little support for the draft, the Military does not want it, and most of the Bush folks don't want the draft either. You needn't worry, it won't come back anytime soon. :) Some ideas are so stupid that only an intellectual could have thought of them - George Orwell

Moved all mine over a month ago. Was already heavily shifted that way anyway. The market has trended steadily down since 1999 when the .Bom hit. It is likely still overvalued, and not likely to roar back like in 1996-8. A slow but steady recovery from 6500-7000 dow in late summer is my guess. If companies don't start hiring again, maybe no recovery other than the occaisional "fool's bounce"... Why Valentine's day? Got some special insight as to when the war will start? :) Some ideas are so stupid that only an intellectual could have thought of them - George Orwell

Why Valentine's day? Got some special insight as to when the war will start? There's a UN report tied to that date, and I read earlier today a commentary on the US going in within days with air strikes of that deadline. It was on Google News, but I can't find it now. Hmmmm. This[^] is a sobering article, that may be closer to the truth than I care to think. War may make no difference at all, or worse, may aggravate the problem by providing a temporary increase in demand that just delays the inevitable.
