If you ever get a chance to see the darker stuff of the 80s (Blakes 7, Sapphire and Steel, et al) then do so. Ignore the crappy effects, it's mostly dark and nasty and very intelligent underneath. Red Dwarf isn't SF though, it's very much comedy, it just happens to be set in space, 3 million years into the future (saves money by keeping the cast down to a minimal number :-D) Paul Pleasently caving in, I come undone - Queens of the Stone Age, No One Knows
