The brilliant They're Made Out Of Meat[^] is the best way to explain what I am asking for. Are there any fleshed out SF books on this topic? Also are there any non-fiction books on the matter of life unlike our own? It fascinates me to think people believe that we are the only possible form of life (us Earth creatures i.e. plants, animals, insects) and I want to read up on the plausible "alternatives." ta

Yay! The Mote In Gods Eye is THE book on first contact with an alien race. I just finished it for the third time. What a pity the sequel SUCKED BALLS. Sigh...
