    I am supposed to become competent with UML. Quick websearch shows me 10, 20, maybe 50 options. SEO makes them all worthless. Recommendations welcome. Thank you.

      Ok, super quick tutorial: Draw a picture, diagram-style. Say "UML". Your boss thinks you've actually done work, while you were really just slacking off.
